Mike does not handle sarcasm well - choose when you use it.
Maybe he likes his hobbies too much and does not like them being ridiculed.

It might take a few exchanges for Mike to realise this is happening by which time he might have reacted badly

Maybe it has something to do with his being Autistic - if so it is a known feature of this superpower.
