Melbourne Weather

(I will be adding hyperlinks from here to other pages soon).
This page is to help my UK and European friends see what is going on where I live. It seems that a lot of people in and around Melbourne use the BOM site to check on the weather, where it is raining and which direction it is going and predictions of the maximum and minimum temperature.

Mouse over the map and try to get the pointer to show 0,0,0,0 for East, North, Away, Degrees.
Now, I have been teaching in a school in Tarneit and have three ways to drive there. One way takes me on a road that has an interesting landmark – a white golf-ball on a white stick. The signs nearby indicate that it is government property. Over the school summer holidays I have not driven much along that road. Recently when I started back at another school in the same locality I noticed, what appears to me to be, a new sign on the base hut. It confirmed my suspicions that the white tower is indeed the ‘place where all the weather comes from’. Well it is the weather radar anyway – and I drive past it every school day when I use that choice of route. The point where the above pointer data are all 0 is, obviously, the point of source of the information on the map display – that is the location of the white golf-ball.
I have a Tom-Tom satellite navigation system and intend putting that as a personal POI (point of interest). It is interesting for me in other ways in that the golf-ball is visible from a long way away and I find it interesting to estimate the distance between me and it. My Garmin GPS unit has this as a mark and I can use the GPS to give me a distance and bearing from where I am to that landmark.
Notice the right angled triangle concept:
square root ((east times east) plus (north times north)) gives the distance away from the origin.
